Prevention Recommendations
Long-term pest prevention is better than reactive treatment. After every visit, we provide actionable recommendations to address the root causes of pest activity — sealing entry points, improving sanitation, modifying habitat, and educating your staff.
Overview
Prevention recommendations
The most effective pest management addresses root causes, not just symptoms. After every scheduled visit, we provide practical, prioritised recommendations to help you prevent pest problems before they start. These recommendations cover structural repairs (sealing entry points), sanitation improvements (removing food and water sources), habitat modification (eliminating harbourage areas), and staff education (practices that reduce pest attraction). Addressing these root causes reduces pest pressure over time — making your program more effective and reducing the need for chemical treatment.
What we recommend
Our prevention recommendations are site-specific and prioritised. They typically include: structural recommendations (sealing gaps and cracks, repairing screens, installing door strips, fixing plumbing leaks), sanitation recommendations (waste management, cleaning schedules, food storage practices), habitat modification (clearing vegetation from building perimeters, removing clutter from storage areas, managing drainage), and staff practices (reporting sightings promptly, maintaining kitchen hygiene, managing deliveries and incoming goods).
Why prevention matters
Chemical treatment suppresses pest activity — but if the conditions that attracted pests aren't addressed, they'll return. Prevention recommendations address the root causes: the entry points, the food sources, the harbourage areas, and the practices that allow pests to establish. By acting on these recommendations, you reduce the pest pressure on your premises over time — meaning fewer pest problems, less chemical treatment needed, and a more effective, sustainable program.
How we recommend
Recommendations are made after every scheduled visit, based on what we observed during inspection and treatment. They're practical, prioritised, and specific to your premises — not generic checklists. We indicate which recommendations are urgent (e.g. a gap that rodents are using to enter), which are important (e.g. a sanitation practice contributing to cockroach activity), and which are good practice for long-term prevention. We're also available to discuss recommendations with your facilities team or property manager.
What you receive
Every site attendance report includes a recommendations section covering structural, sanitation, habitat and staff practice actions. Recommendations are prioritised by urgency and impact, with clear guidance on what needs to be done and why. We can also provide more detailed recommendations or discuss specific prevention projects with your facilities team — and for major structural recommendations, we can liaise with your property manager or maintenance contractor.

FAQ
Prevention recommendations — your questions answered
Do I have to act on the recommendations?+
Recommendations are advice — you're not obligated to act on them. However, acting on prevention recommendations is the most effective way to reduce pest pressure over time and get the most value from your pest management program. We're happy to discuss any recommendations and help you prioritise what's most important for your premises.
Can you help with structural repairs and sealing?+
We can advise on what needs to be done and liaise with your maintenance team or property manager. For some sealing and exclusion work, we can provide the service directly — we'll discuss what's involved and whether it's something we can handle or should be referred to a maintenance contractor.
Do you provide staff training on pest prevention?+
We can provide guidance to your staff on practices that reduce pest attraction — kitchen hygiene, waste management, reporting sightings, managing deliveries. For more formal training, particularly in food businesses, we can discuss your needs and recommend an appropriate approach.
How do I know if the recommendations are working?+
The effectiveness of prevention measures is reflected in your monitoring data and inspection findings over time. As root causes are addressed, you should see reduced pest activity, fewer monitoring device captures, and less need for reactive treatment. We'll discuss the impact of prevention measures at each scheduled visit and in your site reports.
