The Hunter Valley is a high-risk area for termites. Our climate, soil types and abundance of eucalyptus make it ideal termite territory. The Australian Standard AS 3660.2 recommends annual termite inspections for most homes — and more frequent inspections for high-risk properties.
Termites work silently. By the time you see mud tubes, hollow-sounding timber or discarded wings, the damage may already be significant. A professional inspection uses moisture metres, thermal imaging and sounding tools to assess every accessible area — often catching activity before it becomes visible.
High-risk factors include: timber-on-ground contact, poor subfloor ventilation, leaking pipes or drainage, previous termite activity, and homes surrounded by bushland. If any of these apply to your property, consider inspections every 6–12 months.
The good news: when you bundle a termite inspection with your General Pest Treatment, it's discounted to $240 for a single storey home (from $195 for a unit or townhouse). That's a small price for protection against damage that's often uninsured.
