Food production facilities, manufacturers and processors must meet the highest standards of pest management. Under HACCP, BRC, SQF and other food safety management systems, pest control is a critical prerequisite program. A single pest-related product contamination can trigger a product recall, loss of certification, and supply chain relationships that took years to build. A documented, proactive approach is non-negotiable.
The most common food production pests are stored product pests (weevils, beetles and moths infesting stored ingredients and finished products), rodents (entering through loading bays and nesting in stored goods), cockroaches (harbouring in equipment and drains), flies (breeding in waste and landing on packaging lines), and birds (entering through loading bays and nesting in roof structures). Each requires a targeted, documented approach with monitoring and trend analysis.
A HACCP-aligned pest program includes monthly or more frequent servicing (depending on audit requirements), pheromone monitoring for stored product pests, tamper-resistant rodent stations in perimeter and production areas, fly control units in production and packaging zones, and detailed documentation — service records, bait station maps, trend analysis and corrective action records. We schedule treatments during production breaks and use non-chemical methods in production areas wherever possible.
Universal Pest Control provides HACCP-aligned pest programs for food manufacturers and processors across Newcastle and the Hunter. Our documentation is structured to satisfy HACCP, BRC and SQF auditors and supply chain audits — protecting your products, your certification and your customer relationships.
